The certification process is as follows:

1. The organization decides that it wants to develop a quality management system that complies with CIMS GB with Honors, and requests an application.
2. The organization conducts an internal review to be sure that it meets CIMS certification requirements. To successfully achieve CIMS certification, a cleaning service provider must meet 100% of the mandatory elements and 60% of the recommended elements, per section.
3. The organization undergoes a comprehensive on-site review by an independent third-party assessor and demonstrates compliance with CIMS GB with Honors.
4. The organization applies for re-certification every two years.

CIMS GB with Honors sets forth processes, procedures, and supporting documentation proven to be characteristic of customer-driven organizations. It applies six core elements of management best practices, including: 

• Quality systems
• Service delivery
• Human resources
• Health, safety, and environmental stewardship
• Management commitment
• LEED EB: O&M

CIMS GB with Honors certification improves the overall quality of service provided by commercial cleaning companies, enabling them to better meet the demands of facility managers and the guests of these facilities. A commitment to better cleaning leads to healthier and safer buildings that support the well-being of occupants and visitors.

Some commercial cleaning companies feature the CIMS GB with Honors Certification logo and a summary about their commitment to the Standard on their website, brochures and other marketing materials. It’s recommended that if customers don’t see the information readily available, they ask about an organization’s status to learn if it has earned certification.
